ARROYO GRANDE — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL. Arroyo Grande’s Traffic Way Bridge Replacement Project has received an Outstanding Bridge Project Award from the San Luis Obispo Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers. The city announced the recognition in June 2026 following an awards event on May 21.
Project details
The bridge, which crosses Arroyo Grande Creek, reopened to traffic in December 2025 after construction began in May of that year. It replaced an aging structure linking the Village area with surrounding neighborhoods and transportation corridors.
City engineers describe the replacement as a major infrastructure investment aimed at improving safety and connectivity for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. The work was funded primarily through the federal Highway Bridge Program.
The award recognizes the project’s technical and community value, but it does not mean the city has no remaining bridge-maintenance or transportation needs. It is also a recognition of a completed 2025 improvement, not evidence of a new 2026 bridge opening.
For residents interested in how public infrastructure is paid for, the project is one example of federal and local partners supporting a city-level transportation asset.
